RCPC member Holly (Hollenbeck) McKassan has again organized the Footcare Clinic at Austin Street Family Shelter on September 28. Begun in 2022, the goal has been to care for the feet of 130 to 150 people at each one-day Clinic. Assisted by volunteer nursing students and other volunteer medical professionals, those who attended had their feet washed, cared for and given basic foot health checks.
If needed, they were referred to Austin Street Center for referral for medical treatment as soon as possible. After having their feet washed, each person received a new pair of shoes and socks. They also received “care packages” with small sizes of over-the-counter Tylenol and allergy medicine, travel-size toiletries, bars of soap, etc. RCPC volunteers brought supplies to those washing feet and helped hand out the shoes, socks and “care packages.” Holly says, “The hope is that with the comfort this provides, they will remember every time they tie their new shoelaces that someone cares.”
